Skopje, April 4, 2025 – The Chairman of the Steering Council of the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP), Mr. Gentian Sala, accompanied by Steering Board Members Mr. Lorenc Bako and Mr. Bleron Dokle, along with senior officials from AKEP, conducted an official visit to the Agency for Electronic Communications (AEK) of North Macedonia. The delegation was received by Mr. Jeton Akiku, Director of AEK, the Chairman of the AEK Commission, Mr. Orce Simov, and other commission members.
During the meeting, Mr. Sala reaffirmed AKEP’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with AEK, with a particular emphasis on intensifying collaboration in areas of mutual regulatory interest. The discussions were framed around existing Memoranda of Understanding and Technical Agreements between the two institutions, especially regarding continued joint efforts in spectrum monitoring in border regions.AEK representatives raised concerns about the ongoing occupation of the 700 MHz band by audiovisual operators and requested AKEP’s assistance in engaging with the relevant institutions to help resolve the matter.
The meeting featured a comprehensive exchange on regulatory issues in the electronic communications sector, the current state of the market, and projected developments in the shared regional landscape. Both sides also agreed to extend cooperation to the implementation of the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC) and the Digital Markets Act, as part of the broader process of aligning with the EU Acquis Communautaire.
The Director of AEK expressed confidence that the partnership between AKEP and AEK will advance in practical and impactful ways, particularly in areas requiring harmonized approaches.
