AKEP holds meeting on the EAGLE strategic project for international digital connectivity

The Chairman of the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP), Mr. Gentian Sala, organized a meeting with representatives of ONE Albania, the 4iG group and the European Investment Bank (EIB), within the framework of the strategic project EAGLE (Egypt-Albania Gateway Link to Europe).

The meeting took place at the AKEP premises, within the framework of the delegation’s visit to Albania for the preliminary assessment of the project, which envisages the construction of a submarine fiber optic cable between Egypt and Albania, as part of a new international corridor of digital connectivity between Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

During the meeting, the delegation representatives presented the objectives and main components of the EAGLE project, as well as the vision for the development of a modern and sustainable electronic communications infrastructure, which aims to strengthen Albania’s role as an important regional node of digital connectivity.

Mr. Gentian Sala emphasized the commitment of AKEP in supporting of the development of modern communications infrastructures, in accordance with national legislation and European standards.

The interlocutors shared the assessment that such strategic projects contribute to increasing the security and diversification of international data transmission routes, creating new opportunities for the development of the digital ecosystem. AKEP remains involved to promoting of investments in strategic networks and infrastructures that strengthen Albania’s position on the international map of electronic communications and contribute to the development of a competitive, secure and innovative market.
